Welcome to the third trimester!!
We are in week 27 now, and last Wednesday I had a checkup. That appointment included my one-hour glucose screening test, in which I had to drink way too much of this horrid stuff:
I was really afraid that I would throw it up, given my history, so I took an entire tab of Zofran (I usually take 1/2 per dose, but my script instructions are for “1/2 to 1 tablet…”) about an hour before the appointment so I’d hopefully hold it together. And hold it together I did. It honestly wasn’t as bad as I’d feared, and I got to meet with my doctor after I drank it, so the hour went by pretty quickly (also thanks to my friend Angie for going to the appointment with me since Alex couldn’t!). I got shaky, lightheaded, and generally sick feeling right as the 1-hour mark came up, and it hurt a lot more than usual (and I bruised) when they stuck me to take my blood. I haven’t gotten my results yet so…hopefully we’re good. I’d really like not to do that again, and especially not for three hours. Blech.
week 24
week 25
week 27 (good golly, that’s a big jump)
From last appointment to this one (4 weeks), I gained about 2.5 pounds. The doc says my weight and blood pressure are “perfect”. My belly measured at just 25 weeks, but she said not to worry since I’m so petite to begin with (seriously, zero torso length going on around here) as long as I continue to grow (so if at 29 weeks, I’m measuring 27, that’s fine!). M’s sweet little heartbeat was so strong and beautiful.
M is roughly 14 inches long and weighs about 2 pounds (whoa). She is the size of either a head of cauliflower or an eggplant, depending on who you ask. Among other things, she apparently blinks all the time now and is practicing breathing. She wiggles around CONSTANTLY, and her little body parts are starting to make their way up into my ribcage, which is ridiculously uncomfortable. I can’t even imagine how bad that will feel when she’s even bigger. Her movements are also visible from the outside now, so every day I spend at least a small amount of time with my shirt pulled up just watching my belly bounce and wiggle. It’s weird and amazing and I love it.
This week I made my first baby purchase: two adorable Carter’s shirts that were on end-of-season clearance at TJ Maxx.
I spent a total of $5 (each shirt would have been $16 in the Carter’s store!) and they’re in the 6-month size, which should fit her come fall. Unless my math is wrong, which wouldn’t surprise me at this point. Where is my brain?
From now until week 35/36, I’m seeing the doctor every two weeks instead of 4! So I go again next Wednesday and will update again then. If I remember.
